Hello and thank you for visiting. This is a community group for all Australian quilters to join or just follow. Membership is FREE and you are partnered each month and we make each other a 12 inch quilt block based on our preferences which we swap. (12.5 inches raw edge to raw edge) The emphasis of the group is on friendship and sharing. To find out more or register to join email me firstname.lastname@example.orgThis purpose of this blog is to chat and showcase blocks and quilts made by members, kind of like a show and tell . Yours in stitching, Sue
Thank you to Noelene and Leanne for your lovely red and white saw tooth stars, and to Cheryl M for the sweet little 6 inch ones. I have left my camera at work so will pop a pick up later but wanted you to know that they have all arrived.
I was just interested on how many members we had from different countries so I have colour coded my data base.
Here are the statistics:
AUSTRALIA - 34
CANADA - 7
USA - 4
ENGLAND - 1
NEW ZEALAND - 1
SPAIN - 1
If you have ever scrolled to the very bottom of the blog you will see that I also have on their a blog traffic map, this tells me where people are that are reading the blog. If I click on this it actually gives me statistics as to where the people are located. I dont know about you, but I find this facinating to know people from all over the world are reading this and admiring the work we all do.
Just received this lovely block from Shauna (Bushfields Farms of Canada). I thought it might have got lost in the mail and that would be a terrible shame as I would most definitely be deprived of such a beautifully well done Spool Block. Thank you Shauna for doing a great job of it.
Thank you Sue for doing this blog for me. Great news about Crafty, and with this new addition to her family, she will be definitely be busier than ever! Well, you know us women, we are great organisers and it is always amazing what we can achieve with all these challenges coming in our way constantly. See ya and have a great day.
By now you should have received your June partners. We have 47 members participating in the swap this month, thank you to Melody for doing the spare double swap. (I do try to share this around).
As you would have read I am off to Thailand for a holiday (on June 4th), but will have the ipad with me, and will try to stay in touch depending on Wifi availability.
Stay tuned to see some holiday snaps when I return on my personal blog, some silk and textiles are on my shopping list.
I am delighted to tell you my block arrived on Friday from Leena and I love it .Isn't it gorgeous and such a unique block . Thanks so much Leena for being my first partner in the swap , I enjoyed it very much . Hope everyone is having a great stitching day . Sheila
I received this beautiful block from Sheila Munro (Nova Scotia, Canada) and the lovely 'quilted' postcard. She mentioned that it was her first ever 'Spool Block' and Postcard and I must say that she did a great job. Didn't seem like a 'novice' to me!!!
Fabrics used fits in perfectly. Love the block and the fabrics.
Sylvia sent me an email to not participate in the swaps for a couple of months as she was busy, and I was disappointed as I had ear marked myself to be her partner for June. As it turns out I am going to be overseas for the first 2 weeks of June so we decided to be June partners in May instead.
As you may know if you follow my personal blog I have been practising with foundation piecing and although a I still find it confusing and a challenge I am pleased with how this star turned out for Sylvia, who requested any block in purple pink green and white. I think I have covered all of those colours as the green butterfly print has some pink in it too. I was a little disappointed as the finished block ended up 1 inch smaller than we make them, so I put a frame around it in the white. So to the paper piecer's out there is this common that a pattern may end up smaller?
I will pop this in the post this week, I hope Sylvia likes it.
I also just posted Sheila's (of Nova Scotia, Canada) 12" block. Sheila's preference was Stars in any shades of pink. This block, 4-patches and Stars came out of my book of blocks (collection of blocks to-do someday!) . Will she be happy with this, I sincerely hope so!!
I got very excited when I was collecting fabrics for this block .. so excited that I just had to make it tonight ... it is now 2:30 in the morning and I have completed it ... and it is just lovely ... and if you don't like it Fiona .. I will have it back ...lol ...
Here is a little peek at what will be in the mail to you tomorrow ... you should get it Friday ...
I really don't give too much of an idea of it do I ... haha ..
I was the receiver of Lyndell's first swap and I am very happy with the block I received...great points! It has now been placed with my other blocks in blue & yellow.. a lovely quilt is going to be made out of all these blocks when I get enough to put them together.
Robyn your Grandmothers Fan is getting mailed tomorrow ... and as it only has a little distance to travel it should reach your mailbox by early next week ... I do hope you like the colours I picked to go into this block for you ....
And here is a little sneak peek ... which shows absolutely nothing .... but the block turned out beautifully if I do say so myself .. it is the first ever Grandmothers Fan that I have done .. and ... well .... I really want to make more now .... I truly love these swaps ...
Its finally done, last night (while watching the footy show), I stitched the final stitches in the binding of Shabby stars. This is the second friendship quilt that I have made since starting up this block swap group.
Pop onto the tab at the top of this blog to see details of the contributors of this quilt.
We make send and receive lovely blocks every month and show them as we send them, and as we receive them but most importantly when you have enough blocks to make a quilt, we all LOVE to see the finished product. It inspires us all.
When Leena shared her card trick quilt, the following month I had 3 members change their preferences to this block to make their own version.
You can post directly onto the blog (email me if I have not sent you this link). However only I can edit the pages, so I will need you to email me images and details of the finished quilt to put this on the page for you.
I took the Pledge and it did not hurt at all !!! It feels so good having received my partner's details and making a unique block and posting it to her so early on in the month. Now I'll have to wait almost another month to do it again...
here is a sneak peek of the block I made for Sylvia in Canada. It was fun making this block and I hope you like it Sylv. It is now flying across the ocean on its way to Canada (and it is not a Flying geese!).
Sylvia also posted a teaser of her block to me. Thank you for being my May SWAP partner
Have to say that a Royal Wedding is lots of fun. The entire country is in happier mood. It's lovely and most of all because I received my April Block from Leona and what a beautiful block it is! It is so nice to open a parcel an see these beautiful and bright colours! I love it. Thank you Leona.
... and Leona has received my block to her at the beginning of April. You can see what I made to her here
