I may be AWOL

Hi Ladies,

as not all of you may follow my personal blog, you may not have read that I have a new grand daughter.

Ziva Jade arrived early on Sunday morning, 10 days before she was due.  I am hopping on a plane to Townsville in the morning to visit for a few days and get my quota of nanna cuddles in.  I am not sure how much internet use I will get, so if you email me and dont hear back, please be patient.  I get home on Saturday evening, and will try to get to my emails some time on Sunday.

December Swap for Maria of Nova Scotia

My partner this month is Maria and she has requested for any star block using medium to pale blue, and yellow. I have decided to do the '9 Patch Star' from Quilters Cache and hopefully Maria will not be disappointed with this. The block is on the way as I write this..
Hopefully, it will not take too long to reach her with the busy 'mail traffic' of the coming festive season.

63 members - an all time high

So much for capping membership at 50, and then again at 60.  I am pleased to announce we have 63 members, with 8 sitting our swaps for December that is still 55 swaps taking place this month.

I have just finished sending out the partnership emails, a mammoth job that took me almost 2 hours to complete.

This month we have our group 2 members now officially part of this group, so welcome ladies, you are now mingling with the group 1 ladies.

I also welcome our newbies to the group doing their first swap:

Lorraine from New Zealand - swapping with Cathy
Amira from the ACT (originally from Malaysia) swapping with Noelene
Encara from Barcelona in Spain swapping with me and
Beverley from Queensland swapping with Maria

A big Aussie quilted hugs welcome to you all.  I am doing the double swap this month as its been awhile since I have done one.

Swap code of conduct

Hi ladies, If I sound like like a nag, or a broken record and I don't mean to, but this month I have been bitten by the let down bug.

Neither my 12 or 6 inch partner in the swap has contacted me to confirm the swap, and I have gone ahead and made and sent them a block, and as the month draws to a close I have not seen anything in my letterbox from them.

I now have 63 members in this group, with several new enquiries coming through on a weekly basis so I am going to have to take a tough stance.  I was going to cap the members at 60, but I cant seem to turn any one away that wants to join.  So this means that if you let someone down in a swap, you may find yourself suspended from future swaps.  This may sound tough, but I also get several emails a month from ladies like myself that do the right thing and don't have this reciprocated.

1. If you do not wish to be part of this group, and cannot honour your swaps, let me know you are not obligated to continue.

2.  You can put your membership on hold for up to three months if you are going to be busy - just let me know.

3. If  you have made a block for someone and they have not made one for you the first step is to email them, if you do not get a reply within 7 days email me to let me know   I will email them and If I don't get a reply either they will be suspended.

This may seem harsh, but I only want ladies in this group that wish to play fair for all concerned.

I do understand that somethings unexpected things come up, or illness, but please please please, all it takes is a minute to send a quick email to let either me, or your partner  (both if possible) know.

December partners will be emailed out later this weekend.  Just started organising this now

Phew.................  Now I have that off my chest.

Footnote: my 12 inch partner has just emailed me, so all is good on that front.

November swap blocks

This month I was lucky to be swapping with Chantell. We both asked for stars and this is the result. As you can see both patterns are the same but they look so different with different fabrics. Chantell also added a sweet little lavender sachet which I will pop in with my socks. Thanks for my beautiful block... and Chantell tells me she and her daughter love the block I sent her.

From Linda Mc to Linda G

Linda Mc from 'Down Under' made these two happy and bright blocks for me.  I just love the added rick rack and the monkies are just so cute!!  She also send a boomerang key chain.  Does that mean when I misplace my keys that they will automatically return to me?  Thank you so much for these fun blocks, Linda!!!!

Hugs,
Linda G

WELCOME GROUP 2 MEMBERS

Please join me in welcoming the following group 2 members to group 1

Elaine W
Michell K
Maria N

If you have been keeping up with the blogs, our lovely co- ordinator of group 2 Alex has not been well and can no longer continue to run this swap.  I am sure we all wish Alex well and hope that things improve for her.  She certainly has had more than her fair share of illness since I first met her, but she remains bright and positive.

I have just arranged November swaps for these ladies and from December onwards they will be amalgamated into the group 1 swap bringing our numbers to 59. I know I will look forward to swapping with them all one day in the future. With this influx I have now capped membership at 60 (rather than 50) to accommodate the new members.

Invitation to group two members

It seems that Alex who is the co ordinator of QBSA 2 has not been well, resulting in members from this group suffering.

As founder of the main group, I openly invite all members of the group 2 to email me, and I will welcome you to join group 1.

But here is a little history of Quilting Block Swaps Australia:

I started this first group in April 2010 as I could not find a locally run group like this (I was a member of a similar group from the USA). After forming the group it grew rapidly and went from 5 to 50 members in only a few short months.  At the same time I was also running Christmas Blocks swaps Australia.  It was all quite overwhelming so I sought help from some of my members, and Crafty Pugs took on the challenge of the Christmas group and Alex offered to be the co ordinator of the second group which was for an overflow of members from group one.  I have also since started up 6 inch block swaps Australia as there was interest from some ladies to make smaller blocks.  I still co ordinate that swap as well.

Things have settled down now, and I get one or two new members join every month, and at the same time this many leave us for various reasons.  I also find that every month up to 5 members sit out the swap so its quite under control.

If you are interested in joining group one, please email me to quiltingblocksaustralia@hotmail.com.au  in time when Alex is well again you can always transfer back to group 2, its up to you.

Quilted hugs, Sue
