New page on blog

I have added a new page to the blog called

USEFUL QUICK LINKS

This is where I will keep a list of all of those brilliant websites, you tube videos, tutorials etc that can help us quilting girls with patterns and tips.

So, if you come across a great time saving, stress saving tip that you want to share, send me the link and I will pop it on this page for you.

Blocks received-

Thank you to Noelene and Leanne for your lovely red and white saw tooth stars, and to Cheryl M for the sweet little 6 inch ones.  I have left my camera at work so will pop a pick up later but wanted you to know that they have all arrived.

Received!

Look what just arrived! A lovely block from Sue, SA. And she spoiled me with an extra heart block too! Thank you so much, they are both gorgeous!

Cheers,
Sylv

May Block For Sandi

After weeks and weeks of  being ''busy in life'' I am slowly catching up with all my swaps...
Sandi requested ''teapots in non-traditional colours''...
I do hope this is what she was thinking of....
and yeah I know it's in red and aqua like my stars...
but I do just love those colours at the moment hahahaha

INTERNATIONAL FACTS

I was just interested on how many members we had from different countries so I have colour coded my data base.
Here are the statistics:
AUSTRALIA - 34
CANADA - 7
USA - 4
PORTUGAL -2
ENGLAND - 1
NEW ZEALAND - 1
SPAIN - 1

If you have ever scrolled to the very bottom of the blog you will see that I also have on their a blog traffic map, this tells me where people are that are reading the blog.  If I click on this it actually gives me statistics as to where the people are located.  I dont know about you, but I find this facinating to know people from all over the world are reading this and admiring the work we all do.

From Shauna to Leena

Just received this lovely block from Shauna (Bushfields Farms of Canada). I thought it might have got lost in the mail and that would be a terrible shame as I would most definitely be deprived of such a beautifully well done Spool Block. Thank you Shauna for doing a great job of it.

Thank you Sue for doing this blog for me. Great news about Crafty, and with this new addition to her family, she will be definitely be busier than ever! Well, you know us women, we are great organisers and it is always amazing what we can achieve with all these challenges coming in our way constantly. See ya and have a great day.

Lovin' the swaps,

Leena

As you would have read I am off to Thailand for a holiday (on June 4th), but will have the ipad with me, and will try to stay in touch depending on Wifi availability.

Stay tuned to see some holiday snaps when I return on my personal blog, some silk and textiles are on my shopping list.

Sylvia's Star

Sylvia sent me an email to not participate in the swaps for a couple of months as she was busy, and I was disappointed as I had ear marked myself to be her partner for June.  As it turns out I am going to be overseas for the first 2 weeks of June so we decided to be June partners in May instead.

As you may know if you follow my personal blog I have been practising with foundation piecing and although a I still find it confusing and a challenge I am pleased with how this star turned out for Sylvia, who requested any block in purple pink green and white.   I think I have covered all of those colours as the green butterfly print has some pink in it too.  I was a little disappointed as the finished block ended up 1 inch smaller than we make them, so I put a frame around it in the white.  So to the paper piecer's out there is this common that a pattern may end up smaller?

I will pop this in the post this week, I hope Sylvia likes it.

New Blocks........

I received this lovely Wonky Square in "I Spy" fabrics from Sylvia......

This is the blue and yellow block I traded it for ............

APRIL BLOCK FROM BOBBIE

Here is my April block from my swap partner Bobbie. Thank you Bobbie! I love your block and it fits in with the others I got.

Welcome new members

Sorry I am a bit late in posting this, but by no means do I mean to be less welcoming.

Since sending out the May swap partners, I have had 3 newbies join.. so a big quilted hugs welcome to :

Robyn from New South Wales
Larissa from Northern Territory (our first NT member)
Elizabeth from Victoria

And a big thank you to the ladies offering to do extra swaps that made it possible for these three new members to swap this month, your help and support is extremely appreciated.

We are now back to 50 members after a few dropping out of the group of late.

From Leena in Australia to Sheila in Canada

I also just posted Sheila's (of Nova Scotia, Canada) 12" block. Sheila's preference was Stars in any shades of pink. This block, 4-patches and Stars came out of my book of blocks (collection of blocks to-do someday!) . Will she be happy with this, I sincerely hope so!!

Second friendship quilt complete

Its finally done, last night (while watching the footy show), I stitched the final stitches in the binding of Shabby stars.  This is the second friendship quilt that I have made since starting up this block swap group.

Pop onto the tab at the top of this blog to see details of the contributors of this quilt.

We make send and receive lovely blocks every month and show them as we send them, and as we receive them but most importantly when you have enough blocks to make a quilt, we all LOVE to see the finished product.  It inspires us all.

When Leena shared her card trick quilt, the following month I had 3 members change their preferences to this block to make their own version.

You can post directly onto the blog (email me if I have not sent you this link).  However only I can edit the pages, so I will need you to email me images and details of the finished quilt to put this on the page for you.

My block for Maria

Here is a sneak peek of my block for Maria. She asked for a Ohio Star in eye spy fabrics. This is the first time I did this kind of block and I enyoied it very much. I will post it this week.

May block for Doris

Doris requested a black and white block with one other colour. I loved this challenge.
I ended up making a "Double Z" block with orange as my other colour choice.

I hope you like it Doris :-)

Leena's spools from Heather

Leena was delighted to receive her first spools block in the post today from Heather.  I love the way this block really looks like a cotton reel.  I feel another fabulous quilt coming up from Leena

My May blocks

I have a busy month ahead, and with 2 partners this month I got off to an early start.

My first partner for May is the lovely Alethea in New Zealand who wanted any block in dark blue and white, so I made the ever popular Ohio Star with a fussy cut centre for her.

My second swap for the month was with the lovely Leanne for New South Wales who requested a Log Cabin with pinks on one side and aquas on the other with a white centre.  I hope this fits the bill.

Both blocks will start their travels to their new home tomorrow.

From UK to Canada

I took the Pledge and it did not hurt at all !!!
It feels so good having received my partner's details and making a unique block and posting it to her so early on in the month. Now I'll have to wait almost another month to do it again...

here is a sneak peek of the block I made for Sylvia in Canada.
It was fun making this block and I hope you like it Sylv. It is now flying across the ocean on its way to Canada (and it is not a Flying geese!).

Sylvia also posted a teaser of her block to me. Thank you for being my May SWAP partner
