How to JOIN quilting block swaps Australia

Hello and thank you for visiting. This is a community group for all Australian quilters to join or just follow. Membership is FREE and you are partnered each month and we make each other a 12 inch quilt block based on our preferences which we swap. (12.5 inches raw edge to raw edge) The emphasis of the group is on friendship and sharing. To find out more or register to join email me on quiltingblocks@hotmail.com This purpose of this blog is to chat and showcase blocks and quilts made by members, kind of like a show and tell . Yours in stitching, Sue

February - the month of LOVE

Welcome to February swap time.  February is the month of love, so lets spread the love around with our swap partners.

We have 46 members participating in the group this month, having lost a couple of members, and also having some sitting out this month as they are busy.  As most of you are aware we capped the membership numbers at 50 to allow group two to start building membership.  Over the coming months as this group grows, group one membership may dwindle a little.  When group 2 is well and truly established we will start filling the gaps of membership in group one.

Some members have been enjoying more than 1 swap per month as they have offered to swap with new members when I have had a few join in a month and I thank you for your support in this.  However as we now have no more growth there will only be one partnership per month.

I am trying to swap with everyone at least once, and look forward to connecting with you all, but I still have quite a few to go so that will take me pretty much all year to accomplish.

Dallas's Star

Thank you to the lovely Dallas for her pretty shabby chic star.

The photo does not do it justice, but the centre is a dark pink spot with pretty little rose buds for the points of the star and a lovely soft green to finish it off.  It will go perfectly with the blocks I have so far. Dallas also sent me a sweet little pin cushion pillow and lovely note card with her block.   xx

Card Trick Block for Leena

Leena requested this block in brights with black background. I hope she likes it. Actually made the block the first week of the swap but then the floods hit us in Brisbane. My home was not affected but all major roads near us were so we were cut off. I was then involved in volunteering to clean up as part of the 'mud army' (the devastation was incredible to see- much worse then as depicted on TV) getting to the post office was just not possible....but the block is now on it's way.

FEBRUARY SWAP COMING SOON- Swapping etiquette.

Hi ladies, Just a little reminder that the February swap partners will be sent out this weekend.  I hope none of our members have been affected by the the terrible floods in Queensland, parts of NSW and Victoria.  Our hearts and thoughts are with you all.

Swapping etiquette to remember.
Every month I get at least one email from someone not having heard from their partner either before of after a block is made and sent.  I urge you all to please make contact with your partner as soon as you can BEFORE making and sending the block, not just to introduce yourselves to each other, but to confirm preferences, addresses and that you are participating.
Secondly let your partner know that their block has arrived by emailing them or by posting a pic of it on the block on the blog so they know its arrived.

Ausi block off to Florida

Sandi lives in Florida and she asked for any block using Australian fabric......

I am new to making different 'blocks' so I tried my hand at a Crazy Quilt Block

The Koala is the feature, but I have highlighted the Warratah, which has a Rainbow Lorikeet peeping over the top..... and there is a cute Wallaby hiding in the corner....

I saw that she does some really interesting blocks so I hope this one suits her well.....

~ this will be off in the post next week ~

~ hope you are having fun with your blocks ~

Block received from SylviaM

Hi everyone,  boy! going to work sure eats into your
blogging & sewing time, doesn't it ;-)

I have received another block in the mail during the week, and now I can post a photo.

Here is a block from SylviaM - for the January swap - my photo does not do the colours justice - it is actually a bit browner/warmer ;-)

Time to catch up with some more sewing - it was nice to be out and about earning some money, but I sure did miss blogging and sewing ;-)

December Swap blocks

Hi everyone

I'm a little late in posting pics of my December Swap.  My partner was Larain and she requested any block in yellow and white.

This photo was taken by Larain since I forgot to take one before sending off the block!

And Larain sent me a beautiful Baby Bunting to add to my collection in PINK! (apologies for the bad photo!)

Thank You for being my swap partner, Larain!

Thank you also to my January partners whose blocks I have received.  I plan to make my January blocks tonight or tomorrow and I'll let you know when they get sent out!

Thank you to Teresa from Portugal for my two lovely Shabby chic star blocks.  They will go together perfectly with the ones I have so far.  This quilt is really starting to take shape (not that I have sewed any blocks together yet) just played with them.

Block from Val

Yesterday, I got my block for Val.  I love the Flower and Yellow background that she choose for my block.  I really can't wait for 12 blocks to see what size of a quilt this will be and what it will look like when all done.  I am so excited about this as it is going to be a mystery until it is finished as I did not really pick as specific colour or block.  It is totally up to the creator of the block to pick....
I love this Block and I really can't wait to get it into a quilt.

Tarnyia's Block From Jane

I know you have all seen it but I wanted to show it again and to let Jane know I have it...
It is just gorgeous and I love how she has done the star points... plus she has sent me a reel of Master Threads in aqua... Thank you Jane for the tread and for the block and for being a great partner...

GRAB THE BUTTON FOR GROUP 2

Click on the side link to view Group 2s blog and grab the button to be able to keep an eye on it. Please note that we have decided that  Group one members will only be able to blog on group 1 blog, and group 2 on group 2s blog or it could get a bit hard to co ordinate.

Now we have to sit back and wait for our first new member for group 2.
HOW  EXCITING
My swap partner for January is Cathy and she requested a surprise block of harvest colors or purples. I am really sorry, but I ended up botching the harvest block. I tried to remake it twice and in the end I didn't have any more harvest-colored fabric left. It was a very frustrating morning but with a 1/2 a pot of coffee I got back on track. So Cathy- you are getting a purple block!!!

It will be on its way this week... I hope you like it.

Cheers,
Sylv's

My yellow and white block is done for Larain and will be in the post tomorrow. Yellow and white turned out to be harder for me than I thought as all of my fabrics are not yellow and white only, which is what Larain wanted, hence the dots. At least it is nice and bright! Here is a sneak peek. Hope you like it Larain.

WE ARE AT 50 MEMBERS

Time for CELEBRATIONS
and to welcome our 50th Member to Quilting Blocks Swaps Australia,  Heather from Canada.

Now, as previously mentioned I was capping the membership at 50 as its hard work keeping up with all the swaps, emails blogs etc.  However the lovely Alex has offered to run a sister swap in conjunction with my main swap, similar to Crafty Pugs running the Christmas swap.  The only catch is if you are a member of group one (my group) you cannot also be a member of group 2 (for now).

So, how it will work is that Alex will design a blog that will link to the master blog with a button.  All new members will be redirected to join group 2.  When this group gets to a reasonable size we will then start switching some of the longer standing members from group one into group two so you can get to swap with members from that group as well.

So keep tuned for the release of the new group and join me in congratulating and welcoming Alex as the new groups co-ordinator.

Quilted hugs, Sue xx
